Broncos host Rams this weekend

Trevor Siemian will get the start

When veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez arrived via a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, the starting job was pretty much his to lose.  After the Broncos drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round, he must have felt even more ready to lead the Orange and Blue on the field.

But it is the 23 year old Trevor Siemian who will get the start this weekend. Through two preseason games, Siemian has gone 17/26 for 163 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception.  By contrast, Sanchez has three turnovers in a little over two quarters of play.

“No excuse for that poor, poor quarterback play, Sanchez said.   broncos 3“It’s difficult playing like crap on two plays and ruining an opportunity. That’s difficult.”

“They are all going to play an equal amount,” Head Coach Gary Kubiak said. “I have to sit here and think about how much I’m going to play the starters, so that’ll have a lot to do with how I play them. I’m going to see how much I’m going to play our starters in the game. I’ll make that decision later in the week.”

Tickets for Saturdays game against the LA Rams are still available as are all preseason and regular season games so be sure to grab yours today and help cheer on your Denver Broncos this weekend!

Broncos still searching for starting QB

The Denver Broncos parted ways with Peyton Manning’s backup Brock Osweiler in the off season whereupon he joined the Houston Texans.  The Broncos then traded a conditional 2017 draft pick for Jets QB Mark Sanchez.

While Sanchez has been okay in preseason, it should be noted that he is going up against the Broncos starting cornerback, one of which, Bradley Roby, intercepted him twice and both times Sanchez was targeting receiver Emmanuel Sanders and both were returned for touchdowns.  But, in seven on seven’s against the first team defense, Sanchez went 7-8 and 3-4 in the red zone for a touchdown.

“We’re playing against some of the best DBs in the league,” Sanchez said. “Roby’s been making some really great plays out there. That’s good. It’s good for us to see and good for us to learn from.”

Sanchez is competing against journeyman Trevor Siemian who has proven that he has what it takes…in practice.

“Practice is one thing, but you’ve got to bbroncos 2e able to do your job when it matters in the games,” he said. “I know it’s preseason, but it’s a good opportunity for all of us, regardless of what group we’re going out with, to execute and carry over some of the things we’ve been working on out here.”

Also in the mix for a backup role is rookie Paxton Lynch who has shown off his wheels early on.

“That’s something that I stated picking up on (rushing/running) and feeling more comfortable with,” Lynch said. “If something’s not there the first, second, or third read, and I feel the pocket breaking down, I’ll get out and run with it like you would in the game.

It will be interesting to see the outcome and who will get the first snaps at the first preseason game this Thursday against the Chicago Bears.  The Broncos then return home to Mile High to take on the San Francisco 49er’s on Saturday August 20th.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to grab yours today and help cheer on your Denver Broncos!!

Miller wants to be a Bronco for Life

Von Miller was at a publicity event recently and told the gathered crowd that he was not going anywhere.

“I’m going to be here in Denver no matter what,” Miller said, per The Denver Post. “The contract is going to take care of itself. I’m going to be a Denver Bronco for life.”

And while Miller is confident the contract “will work itself out,” other concerns are beginning to come to light, namely who is going to lead the Broncos into the 2016 season at quarterback, especially after Brock Osweiler bolted for the Houston Texans.

Broncos 2016

That left beleaguered quarterback Mark Sanchez which prompted the Broncos to select Paxton Lynch in the first round of the 2016 Draft.  Lynch has been described as the prototypical quarterback, great size at 6-7 and above average mobility.

“I like the idea of going up to get the franchise passer. John Elway likes big passers and he has another one. Grade: B+,” Pete Prisco-CBS Sports.

Whoever starts at quarterback, the preseason kicks off on Thursday August 11th against the Chicago Bears on the road.  The home preseason opener follows with a game against the  San Francisco 49er’s.  Tickets for that game and all preseason as well as regular season games are already available so be sure to stake out your game today!
